Playing Games For A Party
My son was approaching his thirteenth birthday. As his birthday approached, we tossed around many ideas for a party before deciding on one. We would have a video game party. In order to make the party memorable, we knew that it would take more than one platform played on a little television and decided to ramp up the excitement as best as we could.
The first thing we would need was going to be some video game platforms, and it was not going to be good enough to only have one, we would have to get a Nintendo Wii, an Xbox 360 Kinect and a Playstation move along with a variety of games for the kids to play and some televisions for them to play on.
There was no need for me to worry about how we would get the platforms for gaming and the televisions to play them on. It turned out to be more difficult than I thought. I had bought a Nintendo system several years before. I contacted a video game store and asked them if they had the systems to rent and found out they did not have the Xbox Kinect because it was to new and since the Xbox 360 Kinect release date had just passed it would be a while for them to start renting them but they did have titles available for all three of the platforms and it would just be a matter of finding a store that had the titles that I wanted. We did not let that stop us from getting all three platforms. Through friends and families we were able to find the consoles that we did not have and were able to use them for the party.
We needed to add a few more screens to our home to complete the game platforms. Fortunately our home was already equipped with a big lat panel TV and we also had a decent size TV available for another console. But the theme was to go big and we would need more. We found out that we could rent a 73 inch 3-D television and made the arrangements to do just that. They did not let you rent it for a couple of days, so it stayed in our home for a month. That was just one of the things that would have to be done for the party is what I figured. It was not something that made my spouse happy with me.
We prepared the house for the onslaught of teenage gamers. We rented some games form the video store that included some very popular titles. We invited a bunch of my son’s friends over for the sleepover and said that they could bring anything they wanted to play on the game platforms. Our home also had other gaming consoles that we no longer used but were still able to work. We turned our home into a modern day arcade that was full of systems to play with. I do not think that we were lacking in this department.
I never expected to see the wide array of gaming accessories that the people carried through the door of our home. The number of accessories that these kids had for the games was amazing. Our rooms were full of guns, swords, and everything else imaginable. The kids also had no shortage of different titles that they gathered from their own collections. There was enough to keep this group of kids occupied throughout the entire night.
I was too old to go without sleep. The kid’s did. I do not think the televisions ever got turned off. As I cooked some food, they were still playing. I am sure that when the kids returned home they probably slept throughout the day. In the end we were able to accomplish what we wanted to.
