Coming Up To The Holiday Season – Considering Throwing A Party?
A party is more than just music, lots of food and drink; it’s about special times, catching up with friends and family and having a fantastic time. Unfortunately having any type of party can be extremely stressful. To help you decrease those stress levels, I have put together some ideas which will hopefully make things run more smoothly.
Let’s begin with arranging the event and who to invite.
Make sure your invite has all the details of the party from date, time and location, to dress code and if guests need to bring anything.
It’s very important to consider what entertainment to host at the party, what do you and your family and friends like to do? Organize some name labels with a bright and fun design, a good talking point as well as helpful for those guests who may not know everyone.
Those crucial decorations and thoughts on music
For a Christmas Time event, decorations are extremely important. Make a show of your tree with pretty baubles, hang some mistletoe, generally make your home look as festive as possible. Pretty candles placed around the home, create a cheerful atmosphere; but make sure they are secure and can’t be knocked over. If you want to encourage people to sing and dance, then organize the music carefully – a few Xmas songs should get the party rolling.
Which sort food and drink do you need to put on?
Get in more food than you actually need. You may have to throw food in the bin, which is wasteful, but if the food runs out you and your visitors are not going to be happy. When organizing the food, make sure there are dishes for vegetarian guests as well as anyone who may have allergies.
If you’re not sure of what drinks to stock up on, the following should cover most drinking needs at your gathering tea and coffee, hot chocolate, both types of wine, spirits as well as fruit juices and soft drinks.
General hints for hosting a great party
As you are the host its is your obligation to be available to all visitors, not just a select few. Go round the party making sure each person has what they need, include shy guests in conversation or ask a more outgoing guest to take them under their wing.
Don’t leave dirty bowls and bottles lying around, as the party goes on, pick up trash and take empty plates away. This reduces the amount of tidying at the end of the party, and keeps the atmosphere agreeable for late guests and everyone else.
Choose a smoking area for guests and make sure they are aware of it; maybe place a few comfy chairs on the patio with an outdoor heater if it is cold.
Presents
If there is a gift exchange, make sure to set a realistic price point for the gifts in advance. Exchanging gifts can be very entertaining and if guests have to buy just one person a gift (decided upon beforehand), but the gift is from everyone, the cost involved is not too much.
